Wait, I Thought the USA Was Conservative?! NOT

Well whaadya know about that:
Democrat Lt. Gov. Tim Kaine won the Virginia governor's race Tuesday, soundly defeating Republican Jerry Kilgore in a contest for a GOP-leaning state that was closely watched by political analysts for signs of the public's mood ahead of next year's midterm elections.
And wasn't I just wondering aloud about the Catholic service to the poor? Guess that resonates with more than a few:
As a Christian missionary in Honduras during his early 20s, Tim Kaine was devastated by the poverty surrounding him and vowed to spend the rest of his life serving others.

That dedication to serve has taken Kaine all the way to the governor's mansion in Virginia.

The Democrat's Roman Catholic faith has played a major role in his life, from his childhood as an altar boy to his work in Honduras — a pivotal experience that helped shape his political aspirations.

His faith-based opposition to the death penalty landed him squarely in the middle of a fierce battle with his Republican opponent, Jerry Kilgore, during the race for governor. Kilgore said Kaine couldn't be trusted to uphold Virginia's death penalty; Kaine argued he can separate his religious beliefs from his duty to uphold state law.
And then there's this:
Democratic U.S. Sen. Jon Corzine was elected governor of New Jersey on Tuesday, beating Republican businessman Doug Forrester in a race that set records for campaign spending but alienated voters with its mean-spirited politicking.

With 60 percent of precincts reporting, Corzine had 54 percent to Forrester's 43 percent.
Ah, I love the smell of wingers burning mad in the morning. It smells like...VICTORY!

[UPDATE 11-09-05] Arnie, the voter's have spoken NOW will you please shut up:
The Republican governor and former Hollywood actor, who likes to say he can sell anything, on Tuesday saw all four of his signature ballot proposals rejected.
...and St. Paul, MN elects a REAL Democrat:
The St. Paul race was overshadowed by partisan fury over Kelly's decision to endorse President Bush for reelection in 2004. A number of polls showed Kelly fighting a backlash in the largely DFL town over the endorsement. A Star Tribune Minnesota Poll showed that nearly two-thirds of likely voters said Kelly's decision to campaign for Bush influenced their choice of candidate.
