Many Democrats' worst fear of Alito is that he might upend 30 years of precedent by overturning Roe v. Wade. They need to consider that a Roberts/Alito/Scalia/Thomas Court could upend the 200 year old precedent of Marbury v. Madison.

FYI, it is precisely the concern that we know two things about Alito--that he is a strict Federalist and two--he WILL change the bench for the rest of his life (which if confirmed, might mercifully be short) that these questions and his vague answers are what disqualify him from confirmation.
